On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright (Wright brothers) piloted the first powered, sustained, and controlled flight. Within a few years, airplanes were successfully navigating long distances and soon began to transform both wartime and global travel. Most airplanes are flown by a pilot on board the aircraft. But some are designed to be remotely or computer-controlled such as drones.
